    Soundtrack to the week...

Today we're enjoying the cool after a hot and steamy Sydney weekend. We're wearing one of our super fine organic cotton Portofino T-shirts with a pair of Palm print silk trousers while mostly listening to the dulcet tones of Terry Callier, which is sitting so well with the laid-back summer vibe we're feeling at the moment we're making his classic 1972 album, What Colour is Love, our soundtrack to the week. Enjoy.

    The soundtrack to your week...

Balmy spring evenings, strolling home with the doors to people's homes open, the scent of barbeques in the air, and the sound of music escaping onto the tree-lined streets. Ahh, it's been a magic long weekend here in Sydney hasn't it? As we prepare for the week ahead we're watching the sun set, that incredible full moon rise, and listening to the sounds of The Cinematic Orchestra. Have a lovely evening friends, and a fantastic week ahead. Much love, Tluxe.

Australian Merino wool lands this week

Heads up people! We’re super excited to announce the arrival of our Australian Merino wool pieces online this week including our super fine, silk-trimmed Merino wool cape (pictured above).

This season we’ve upped the chic factor on many of our wool cardigans and tops by trimming them in silk. So you get the warmth, comfort and sustainable qualities of wool, with a little added glamour and shine.

For those of you who may not already know, Australian Merino wool is undergoing a renaissance as the world’s most luxurious natural fibre and is prized the world over for it’s super fine quality. For a taste of its reinvention we’re loving Woolmark’s exhibition Wool Modern (pictured top), which started off in London and hits Sydney later this month. From Alexander McQueen to Vivienne Westwood and the king of ‘80s sharp silhouettes, Thierry Mugler, the exhibition shows wool at its most avant-garde. Yes, the humble Australian sheep is a little more fashion-foward than you’d expect. And recent innovations mean wool fabrics are now incredibly soft too... Suddenly the imminent arrival of winter doesn’t feel so bad after all.

Our illustrious creative director takes cover from the midday sun.

By now most of you would’ve seen our debut film on our home page presenting the Tluxe Autumn/Winter 2012 collection, Perpetual Motion.

Shot by director Imogen Prado with campaign stills by Margaux Fraisse, our mini-movie stars New Zealand model and self-confessed nature-girl, Annabella Barber. Above, we've included a few behind-the-scenes shots of our team hard at work in the mosquito-infested wilds of Bronte Gully, near Sydney's Bronte Beach.

The initial concept for the film stems from an image of a white owl in mid-flight, which our creative director, Rebecca Powell came across while researching the inspiration for the new Autumn/Winter 2012 range. “When it came to shooting the film we liked the idea that the fluidity of the bird’s movement when captured in slow motion could be echoed in the flow a cape, one of our key pieces for Winter 2012,” explains Rebecca.

“We built a simple narrative around the journey of a girl through nature, travelling from the forest to the ocean and being enchanted by the beauty she sees along the way. In the finale she swirls and disappears in a flurry of white feathers, which is a reference to the white owl but also symbolises purity and freedom.

“In ancient Celtic times a white owl was synonymous with a Goddess so the story could also be seen as the journey of a girl as she changes into a woman. In the end, it’s a celebration of the beauty of nature, which is reflected in the clothes by our use of natural fabrics, such as silk, wool, and organic cotton.”
