      Watch me... girls on film

One of the first bands to mix fashion models and music, Duran Duran are back (did they every go away?) with a fun ten-minute super model extravaganza, featuring all the glamour, and the original supers of the ‘80s and ‘90s. Yep, Naomi, Helena, Eva and Cindy, all play lead roles in the new music video, which has been styled to the hilt in leather, studs and crystal by Dolce and Gabbana. Pure kitsch, and pure fun.

While we’re talking girls on film, watch out for L’Amour Fou, the feature film about Yves Saint Laurent’s life from the point of view of his partner, Pierre Bergé. And then there’s the season’s top Youtube-friendly fashion shorts, which are hitting hyper drive since the success of Lanvin’s flick featuring a dancing Karen Elson and Raquel Zimmermann.

Our personal favourites so far would have to be Spike Jonze’s stop-motion animation for Olympia Le-Tan’s book-clutch bags, set in a Parisian bookstore, and for a taste of the sublime, SHOWstudio and filmmakers Tell No One’s collaboration for AnOther Magazine titled Dynamic Blooms (pictured at top), which features a post-modern mix of contemporary dance, abstract flowers and beautiful, beautiful clothing. Enjoy.

Dance into the week... with Charlotte and Alber

We’re loving the new dance-themed films coming our way right now. One of our favourite French film stars, the effortlessly cool Charlotte Gainsbourg, isn’t afraid to shake her groove thing in the music video for her debut single, Terrible Angels on what will be her fourth album, Stage Whisper out this November.

And while there’s been plenty of acclaim around the new film Pina by director Wim Wenders on the late dance choreographer Pina Bausch, the prize for the most entertaining cinematic moves this month arrives care of legendary Lanvin designer, Alber Elbaz.

In what must be a first for a luxury brand, Elbaz and models including Karen Elson and Raquel Zimmermann, dispense of the usual seductive posing of designer campaigns for an informal, tongue-in-cheek dance routine. We hope it makes you smile as much as we did.
