Emerald: the colour of the year

"Jeune fille en vert (Young Girl in Green Dress)," (1927-30) by Tamara de Lempicka

"Fight Between a Tiger and a Buffalo" by Henri Rousseau

"Synchronie en vert (Synchrony in Green)" (1913) by Paul Sérusier

So Pantone, the global authority on colour and how it's used in design, has forecaste emerald green as the colour for 2013. What does it mean? If you’re in India green is linked to good luck, life and love. In the Middle East it represents strength, fertility and wealth while in the West, we tend to associate green with money, nature, good luck and all things ‘go’.

Personally when we think emerald we think of nature, and images from the art world, such as those pictured above. And we also don’t mind wearing a bit of emerald, like our palm print La Croisette dress or a simple organic cotton T-shirt. It not only shows you’re forward-thinking when it comes to design, right now with everything in our online store discounted 50%, it shows you’re smart too. Just enter the code SHOP50 after going through checkout. Enjoy!

    New Year, new ideas...

Happy New Year you lovely people! Hope you're all enjoying one of our best summers ever - and are finding plenty of sartorial inspiration in our January sale. For those of you who may feel the need to escape the heat (41 degrees expected in Sydney tomorrow!), skip the crowds at the beach for a little cultural inspiration in the air-conditioned coolness of Sydney's MCA and the fantastic Anish Kapoor exhibition, which is on now until April 1st. Kapoor is one of our personal all-time favourite artists and this is a chance to immerse yourself in the perception-changing colour of his work up close. So do don't miss it!

Inspire me… the perfect travel wardrobe

So you’ve got your beach house booked for your summer break and with the mayhem of Christmas haven’t a second to think about what to pack? Let us do the work for you. Our top tips? Keep it simple with some mix and match separates, add a dress for cocktail hour, take fabrics that are light, roll up easily in your suitcase (like our Tluxe organic cotton and luxe silk combos) and most of all, have fun with colour and print because… you’re on holiday! Enjoy.

    How to wear... sunset orange

With summer now officially here it’s time to break out the sunset tones of orange, a favourite mood-enhancer here at Tluxe HQ especially on a day like today with the skies clouding over.

A constant on the catwalks for next summer 2013 our top tip is to add tangerine as a punch of colour to lift a neutral outfit. You can do it with accessories, like Fendi’s bags for spring/summer 2013 (pictured above) but there’s nothing like a bolt of sartorial orange, such as our Pearl silk and organic cotton top, to add some 2012 now to your wardrobe.

Another alternative is to let your trousers do the talking with our Sandy Lane harems. Team them with a neutral top and some simple, tan sandals and accessories.  Or if you love bold brights, try colour-blocking with a vibrant red shirt.

If your style is more chic than street, we’re loving the way Giovanna Battaglia, editor of L'Uomo Vogue, tones down electric orange with a simple caramel silk scarf.

Orange is the colour for summer dresses right now and going forward well into next summer. You can get yours today in super luxe silk and organic cotton, lovingly made and designed right here in Sydney by the Tluxe team. Here’s to summer. Enjoy!

    Soundtrack to the week...

Today we're enjoying the cool after a hot and steamy Sydney weekend. We're wearing one of our super fine organic cotton Portofino T-shirts with a pair of Palm print silk trousers while mostly listening to the dulcet tones of Terry Callier, which is sitting so well with the laid-back summer vibe we're feeling at the moment we're making his classic 1972 album, What Colour is Love, our soundtrack to the week. Enjoy.
