The Tluxe tux and YSL's Le Smoking look.
This week, we’re watching Anna Wintour’s Obama campaign and perusing Karl Lagerfeld’s new book, Little Black Jacket while wearing our tuxedo-inspired Chelsea shirt. As the great Karl himself says, “Who can live without black clothes?". Personally we find the Chelsea a great way to add a little tux lux to a relaxed, casual look without resorting to the full tailored number a la YSL’s original Le Smoking (pictured above). We’ve styled it with our Raffles trousers but you can team yours with a pair of high waist, wide-leg pants for a touch of Bianca Jagger, or add dark skinny jeans, heels and a blazer in white or a contrast colour for a little hot, new, now.
If you do one thing this week make sure you get down to the MCA in Sydney to see Christian Marclay's mind-blowing film, The Clock, which has its final showing on Sunday (June 3). We popped in one lunch hour and found ourselves completely drawn in by it's slightly addicitve nature. Edits from movies new and old have been spliced together in a 24 hour epic that's synched to show the exact time of day that you're watching the film.
On our visit film stars were sitting down to eat lunch, clocks in town squares were ringing out 12 noon, and as we were leaving, Steve McQueen glanced down at his wrist watch, which read 12.25, as did our own. As we said, it's slightly mind-blowing stuff. And, this Thursday it plays for the full 24 hours so you can drop in and see what happens after dark. Genius.
We’re launching our Winter 2012 collection titled Perpetual Motion online this week and couldn’t resist giving you a sneak preview of our new campaign, shot on location at Sydney’s Bronte Gully and Beach.
This season we’ve introduced silk to the range, seen above in one of our favourite pieces, the California top in the colour Flame. A little known fact about this beautifully luxe fabric is that it’s cooler and more breathable than cotton and so ideal for the Australian climate and our moderate winter weather – a key reason why you’ll be seeing much more silk in our future collections. But right now we’re sure you’ll enjoy the luxe feel of our new silk shirts, silk-trimmed merino wool cardigans and, one of our personal favourites, the silk-trimmed Le Crillon poncho, seen at top. “Layer it up with a long-sleeved top, leggings, and a pair of suede ankle boots,” says our creative director, Rebecca Powell. “It’ll be the most comfortably stylish piece in your wardrobe all winter.”
